After travelling and five full days in China, we were beat. We dropped our plans for the day, went to Disneytown for a bit, watched movies at the hotel, and just rested.
Shanghai Disneyland! A bit smaller than Disneyland California, even when excluding California Adventure but less walking. A few rides were the exact same: Buzz Lightyear, Winnie the Pooh, Soarin', Dumbo, Peter Pan. Some rides were similar but updated, and amazing, like Pirates of the Caribbean. Some rides were unique: Tron, Dwarves Mine Train, The Crystal Grotto, even a really fun ropes course There was also more greenery in the park, it felt like walking through a big garden. Overall, really fun. Our tickets! The castle is pretty amazing, especially when compared to Disneyland California We went to one show, Captain Jack Sparrow's stunt show. It was fun but 100% in Mandarin. At one point, the pirates came out and talked with Jacko. We smiled and stared. Then one of the pirate asked him in broken English, "Are you a pirate!" Jack said he was so they told him to say, "Yo ho!" He did and they made upward motions with th
We arrived in Xi'an in the morning, took a bus to the wrong hotel, then a shuttle to the right hotel, checked-in, arranged a small van for an hour later, showered, changed, left our bags in our rooms, grabbed a quick bite to eat, and left to see the Terracotta Warriors! Busy morning. Bus to our hotel (a very nice Chinese woman figured out we were basically helpless and walked us to our hotel) Xi'an Bell Tower Terracotta Warriors Statue of a Chinese emperor We were planning to go to a garden at the top of the small mountain in the background (you can barely make out the gondolas). Once we got there our kids asked us if we could just go back to the hotel. So tired. So, back to the hotel we go! The massive city wall was impressive. We had planned to bike along it but settled for looking at it from our car. We were told that Xi'an was the biggest city in the world during the days of the Silk Road.
The last two weeks have been some of the greatest we've had here. We haven't had any family come visit since we saw Shel and Trent's family the first month we got here. It's been a long 6 months with no visitors and a few months ago, we finally got Kevin's parents booked on a flight to come visit us. Then, out of the blue, my sister called and said they were bumping up the trip they'd been planning on taking in July or August and were now coming the following week because her husband had some time off work. So, Sharon and Mauri got here Tuesday night and Kevin's parents got here on Friday. Sharon brought us enough chocolate chips and M&M's to last us a year if we were normal people. However, we're not and the M&M's are almost gone. Wednesday, we went and spent the day at Las Catalinas. On our way, we stopped at every beach we passed so Mauri could take pictures. It was really fun showing off how amazing of a place we live in. After liv
